HOWARD BROWN HEALTH

About HBH

ABOUT HBH

Howard Brown Health is a collection of clinics providing LGBTQ affirming and trauma-informed care to Chicago’s many ethnic, gender, and economically diverse citizens.

Howard Brown Health’s purpose within the Chicago medical service landscape is to address the unique needs of their queer, financially diverse patient population. Obtaining plain-spoken, direct, and trauma-informed care very difficult to find elsewhere with any consistency.

Visual communication strategy goes beyond the aesthetics of design. It effectively outlines project rules and guides to ensure that each illustration, poster, flyer, or social media post reinforces the Howard Brown message: competent care for historically underprivileged populations in Chicago.

Pride 2024

PRIDE 2024

50 years of Pride, Advocacy, Queer, Care, Space, Fabulous, and Joy

In 2024, Howard Brown Health celebrated their 50th anniversary. For their yearly entry to the Pride Parade in Chicago, I focused the art direction on celebrating who HBH is and has always been, as well as their role and available services to Chicago’s many communities.

For 2024’s HBH Pride entry, I created a parade theme that used images from Howard Brown Health’s archive, both past and present, to voice HBH’s commitment to…

  • JOY in expressing one’s identity

  • ADVOCACY for LGBTQ+
    patient rights

  • being FABULOUS and bold without fear

  • specific and specialized CARE

  • celebrating QUEER identities and rights

  • establishing a safe SPACE just to be.
